Reality T.V. Meets Whitewater Rafting!

For those of you who are loyal readers of my newsletters, and I hope I'm talking to more than my immediate family here, you may recall a quick blurb in the October newsletter about AAE being on a Reality T.V. Show. Believe it or not, I didn't just write that to see if any of you were paying attention, it's true! Some of our staff traded in their paddles and lifejackets and left us for the bright lights and fame of Hollywood. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a little, as I don't think any of our guides will be starring alongside Johnny Depp in the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie; however some of our guides do have a real flare for the dramatics!

For three days at the end of the summer in August, our Royal Gorge outpost looked more like the set of a feature film, than a rafting facility, as a crew from the T.V. show Trading Spaces, shown on The Learning Channel, came to town and gave AAE a Hollywood makeover. There were over 40 cameramen, make-up artists, and production assistants all over the place. Not to mention boom cranes, large microphones, equipment trucks, and people constantly yelling, 'Quiet on the set!' It was quite a production, literally! However, once the high-strung Hollywood film crew got over the fact that the closest Starbucks is over 50 miles away, and our staff began to understand that some people have to work under deadlines, the two groups actually meshed very well and we all had a blast.

When the dust finally settled and the whole thing was over, we ended up with a completely re-designed check-in/retail office, and a decked-out guide bunkhouse. We are extremely psyched about both and can't wait to show them off. Unfortunately, our doors are closed for the season, so you'll have to wait until next year, or, you can tune into The Learning Channel and catch the whole Trading Spaces episode this Sunday, December 16th at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
