One of the top rafting adventures near Colorado Springs is the Browns Canyon segment of the Arkansas River. Browns Canyon became a national monument in 2015 because of its intriguing rock formations, gigantic granite cliffs, vibrant wildflowers, and highly varied elevation. Rafters love that this rocky canyon provides plenty of recovery time between rapids to prepare for the next one.
We offer a guided excursion through its perfectly varied waters with thrilling zigzags and peaceful moments mixed in between. Tackle the Big Drop, Zoom Flume, the Pinball, the Widowmaker, Seidel’s Suck Hole, and the Toilet Bowl with help from our experienced guides! What to Know Before Whitewater Rafting in Colorado Springs
We suggest that first-time rafters start with small expeditions and work their way up to more intense rapids. If you’re unfamiliar with river classifications; easy waters are Class I. Wider channels with some rapids are considered Class II. Areas of the river with challenging obstacles and narrow channels are counted as Class III. Class IV waters are fast and intense channels while Class V rapids are very dangerous and should only be navigated by professional rafters with years of experience. They include rough, consistent rapids with steep chutes and large obstacles. Class VI waters are not to be attempted by rafters of any skill level.
Make sure you book a trip that matches your level of comfort and experience. Be honest with yourself and your guide about your physical limitations to make sure you choose the safest option for you and your group.
If it’s your first time rafting in Colorado Springs, you might wait until the latter half of the summer for the snowmelt to calm down. If you visit during peak runoff in the earlier season, come with a wetsuit, as the water will be much colder and more turbulent than it is later on in the summer.
